Warner Bros. is awaiting the online release of the latest horror movie of its franchise, The Nun 2.
Five years after The Nun was set to run in the theatres, director Michael Chaves started working on the 2023 sequel. Taissa Farmiga, younger sister of Vera Farmiga or The Nun, has taken the lead. Jonas Bloquet and Storm Reid are also featured. Taking in Wan as a producer alongside DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran, The Nun 2 became the eighth installment in The Conjuring universe, revolving around Sister Irene’s investigation of a priest’s killing in 1956 and confronting a new evil.
How to watch the movie online?
It was disclosed that The Nun 2 will be available on PVOD platforms from Tuesday, October 3, and fans will be able to purchase the movie from YouTube and Amazon any time they want to. This will occur only after 25 days of its theatrical release on September 8, although it performed remarkably at the box office. Standing today, The Nun 2 has grossed around $205 million universally, with $70 million of it being the domestic margin.
The aforementioned 25-day VOD window stands to be one of the shortest windows of any Warner Bros. film released this year, for a studio that is not very close to the big screen business. Two great DCU releases by Warner Bros., The Flash and Blue Beetle, became available on VOD just after 32 days, they did not perform well at the box office. An even lower gap window than The Nun 2 was Jason Statham’s The Meg 2: The Trench, which became available on VOD just after running 21 days in the theatres.
The notable exception to this trend of a short window was Margot Robbie’s Barbie which became the greatest hit of the year and grossed a margin of $1.4 billion at the box office. It had a 53-day window between the theatrical and digital release. Warner Bros. aimed at maximizing the margin for The Nun 2.
When will The Nun 2 stream on Max?
We observe how quickly The Nun 2 is shifting from theatrical to digital, it’s evident that Warner Bros. is ready to rebuild and stock the finances. What we’re still not aware of, is when the sequel runs on Max, as it has transcended movies like The Flash and Blue Beetle.
Here’s a list of movies and the comparison between their theatrical and streaming debut which comes at a lowest of 45 days and the highest at 112 days:
- The Batman– March 4, 2022 – April 18, 2022 (45 days)
- Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore – April 15, 2022 – May 30, 2022 (45 days)
- Elvis – June 24, 2022 – September 2, 2022 (70 days)
- Don’t Worry Darling – September 23, 2022 – November 7, 2022 (45 days)
- Black Adam – October 21, 2022 – December 16, 2022 (56 days)
- Magic Mike’s Last Dance – February 10, 2023 – June 2, 2023 (112 days)

- The Meg 2 – August 25, 2023 – September 29, 2023 (56 days)
This is the second horror movie by Warner Bros. after Evil Dead Rise which has grossed at $150 million at the box office and showed up at Max 63 days following its June 23 opening. Other 2023 horror films like M3GAN and Scream VI, had a small window of 49 days and 46 days, respectively. Coming to The Nun 2, it is evident that this sequel will become available on Max quite soon, definitely within a few weeks. Considering how well it’s doing at the box office, Warner Bros. can delay the Max release for a few additional weeks. It will surely be available before the end of November, after 60-75 days of hitting the theaters.
The Nun 2 is, for the time being, running in your nearest theatre and will be digitally available from Tuesday, October 3.
