Spider-Verse 2 tantalizingly hinted at introduction of The Sinister Six during its development, promising a sinister twist in the story.
In an exciting revelation for fans of the Spider-Verse, a deleted scene showcasing the notorious Sinister Six has come to light, providing a glimpse of what could have been in Sony Pictures’ recent film, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
Throughout Sony’s Spider-Man film franchise, the presence of the Sinister Six has loomed as a tantalizing possibility. In Spider-Verse 2, this infamous group of villains was almost brought to life, with several moments in the film’s development hinting at their sinister emergence.
The animated sequel took a bold approach by centering on Jason Schwartzman’s Dr. Jonathan Ohnn, also known as the Spot, as its primary antagonist. However, it also tantalized viewers with the prospect of classic web-slinger adversaries from various dimensions making appearances.
Unearthed Sinister Six Scene from Spider-Verse 2
Concept artist Aymeric Kevin, responsible for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’s visual aesthetics, has unveiled new artwork that unveils a deleted scene featuring a version of the Sinister Six from Earth-42.
The artwork portrays a dystopian world dominated by the Sinister Six, complete with a towering monument dedicated to the villainous Scorpion and an establishment named “Goblin’s Palace,” in honor of the Green Goblin. This portrayal depicts a universe bereft of Spider-Man’s protection.
The artwork also hints at the presence of formidable villains such as Mysterio, Electro, Shocker, and the potential appearance of Sandman.
This deleted scene is just one of several that didn’t make it into Spider-Verse 2. Others offered further insight into the Spider Society’s actions as Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy delved deeper into the intricacies of the multiverse.
A separate black-and-white concept art piece provided an alternate perspective of this world, showcasing characters observing the chaotic realm.
The Sinister Six’s Role in Spider-Verse 3
As Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse explores the multiverse’s boundaries alongside Miles and his allies, it appears increasingly likely that the Sinister Six will play a significant role in at least a portion of the narrative.
The world introduced in the Spider-Verse 2 artwork, which hints at a Sinister Six-ruled dystopia, is expected to be a pivotal element of Spider-Verse 3’s storyline. This suggests that Sony may finally be ready to thrust the Sinister Six into the spotlight.
Although much of the narrative groundwork for Spider-Verse 3 is likely already laid out, the project’s progress may be temporarily hindered by ongoing labor strikes within the industry. Hailee Steinfeld, who portrays Gwen Stacy, has confirmed that the film remains in its early stages of development, making its release a subject of ongoing anticipation until substantial progress is achieved.
While Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is currently available for digital purchase, the release date for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is yet to be confirmed. Fans eagerly await more details about this highly anticipated installment in the Spider-Verse saga.
