The “Peaky Blinders” cast has retaliated against Florida Republican Governor, Ron DeSantis for using excerpts from the program in his recent campaign commercial.
DeSantis declared his candidacy for president in 2024, and a large portion of his campaign pledges include a nationwide expansion of his very contentious “Don’t Say Gay” policy. The campaign criticizes former President Donald J. Trump for his support of the LGBTQ+ population, particularly transgender persons. It has subsequently been removed from DeSantis’ platforms.
The Peaky Blinders Has A Say
DeSantis has drawn acclaim from the right and ire from the left for repeatedly supporting school censorship. A large portion of the legislation focuses on banning references to LGBTQ+ individuals in schools and limiting their rights.
The cast of “Peaky Blinders” called out the commercial campaign for purported homophobia. They assert that the appropriate license was not used to collect the material.
The team’s decision to distance themselves from the rightwing ideologies of the DeSantis administration has received praise from many of the show’s viewers.
Others have noted that the “Peaky Blinders” narrative likewise revolves around Cillian Murphy‘s character trying to kill a well-known far-right figure. The persona was modeled after a real-life historical individual who supported Adolf Hitler.
Fans are urging Cillian Murphy, who plays Thomas Selby in the renowned Netflix historical drama, to take the campaign for DeSantis to court. The series is famous in many countries and there are many fans who are tuned into the story to get highlights as soon as they come.
