With Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, Hayley Atwell and Shea Whigham are the newest faces to join Tom Cruise’s popular espionage series, but this isn’t the first time the two actors have collaborated.
That distinction goes to a neglected Marvel series that merits a lot more recognition. Before Marvel’s programs like Wandavision, Loki, Secret Invasion, and others swept the streaming world by storm, there was an extremely engaging spin-off series on ABC called Agent Carter.
What You Need to Know About Agent Carter?
Marvel Studios was seeking for new ways to grow the Marvel Cinematic Universe following the enormous success of The Avengers even before the entertainment industry fully embraced the era of streaming.
While they would ultimately investigate streaming with the Netflix partnerships and the Disney+ series, Marvel first went to ABC to generate television programming since it felt like the natural choice. As a result, the long-running Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., the brief Inhumans, and of course, Agent Carter, were all created.
The 2015 television series Agent Carter centers on the adventures of Agent Peggy Carter (Haley Atwell), a self-assured American spy who grew close to Captain Steve Rogers in Captain America: The First Avenger.
The 1946 episode of the television program depicts Peggy as having been demoted to a secretarial position at the Strategic Scientific Reserve in New York City, all the while she is still grieving Steve Rogers’ alleged passing.
The whole run of the show is a thrilling and enjoyable period piece filled with Marvel Easter eggs, such as the butler who served as the inspiration for J.A.R.V.I.S., the beginnings of the Black Widow program, and the crazy scientist who would play a key role in the development of the Winter Soldier.
Peggy has a lot of friends who support her in the first season of the program as she strives to find her position as a kind-hearted agent. These people include Peggy’s longtime friend and ally Howard Stark, Stark’s butler Edwin Jarvis, the haughty bully Jack Thompson, and Daniel Sousa, Peggy’s coworker and future husband. Additionally present is Roger Dooley, played by Shea Whigham, Peggy’s well-meaning but demanding boss.
