Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is likely still at least two years away, but it’s definitely coming if that’s of any comfort.
It was originally thought that the threequel could be out this year as one of the first movies of Phase 4, but then there was the whole behind-the-scenes drama of the firing and re-hiring of writer/director James Gunn.
That delayed things somewhat, especially as Gunn went off to make The Suicide Squad for DC. However, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige did confirm at Comic-Con 2019 that Guardians of the Galaxy 3 will happen.
But when can we expect it and what can we expect from it? Here’s everything you need to know about the long-awaited return of Star-Lord, Gamora and co.
As of right now, we don’t have an actual release date, but Gunn confirmed that the movie won’t be in cinemas “until a little after 2021”.
Gunn also responded to reports that filming was going to start in February 2021 by saying they were “not & was never accurate”, although he has reassured fans that the movie hasn’t been delayed from the current Marvel plans.
“I can confirm that the plans for when we’re filming #GotGVol3 & when it’s being released have not changed at all over the past year & a half or so. Any rumors otherwise are false,” he said in August 2020
So, where does that leave Guardians of the Galaxy 3? Disney currently has a few release date slots for ‘untitled Marvel’ movies: October 7, 2022, February 17, 2023, May 5, 2023, July 28, 2023 or November 3, 2023.
Our best guess is probably the July 28, 2023 slot to fit with the other two movies’ summer releases, but right now, it all depends on when filming begins.
