The story of the first The Purge (2013) took place in one wealthy home while it was the target of assailants. Each following entry’s breadth expanded the franchise in intriguing ways.
The production of sixth installment of the series has began as it was already written by James DeMonaco, the director of the show. DeMonaco has also just shared some interesting information regarding the film’s subject matter.
Since the writers’ strike is affecting every production in the business, it is still uncertain when the next film would begin production. But the first facts suggest that the follow-up could be treading new territory inside the storied series.
What DeMonaco Said About The Purge
Speaking with Variety, DeMonaco shared some thoughts and opinions:
“It’s not completely different than previous movies, but it’s a new America that we’re entering into.”
“In The Forever Purge, America kind of collapsed, and it’s really kind of mapped itself according to different ideologies. The states are based on sexuality, religion, and ideology. So we’ve broken apart and the state of discord is at its worst. We enter The Purge in that world.”
Exploration To A Dystopic Society
In order to “Purge” its more aggressive impulses, the American government in the original movie legalized all violent crimes for a 12-hour period. Three sequels, a prologue, and a TV series were produced for the first movie.
The Forever Purge from 2021, which mostly took place after the annual purge’s events, demonstrated that violence’s pernicious nature could no longer be restricted to an annual custom.
The forthcoming sequel will redefine how America is portrayed in the series. But it will also honor its past because Frank Grillo, who starred in The Purge: Anarchy and The Purge: Election Year, is returning to the franchise.
In an interview with ComicBook.com earlier this year, Grillo said, “[James DeMonaco]’s got the script, man. He wrote the script and presented it to Universal. There are several chefs working in the kitchen. But Leo Barnes is the main focus. It’s about Leo Barnes, and it served as the series’ Swan Song. James solely directed the first, second, and third. The last film he directed was Election Year. After that he was only involved as a producer; nonetheless, he wants to direct this. But Universal and Blum haven’t—instead, they’ve put it on hold. For a moment, it was quite hot. For a brief while, it was scorching, but then it wasn’t.”
