Marvel fans have waited long enough for Black Widow to hit theaters and Disney+ for Premier Access for $29.99 on July 9, 2021. Marvel Studios have had to keep every detail of the film under wraps for over a year as the COVID-19 pandemic delayed its release.
And Scarlett Johansson revealed in a recent interview that her own husband, Colin Jost (Saturday Night Live) really did not want her to spoil the Marvel movie for him.
On the Jess Cagle Show, Scarlett Johansson joked about how her now-husband required a spoiler warning before he would run lines with her. She said:
“If I was in the middle of a big action set piece or sequence or whatever, he couldn’t hear – he was just not wanting to hear anything – anything – about it, anything about the details – of course he wants to know, ‘How was your day?’ but as soon as it was like, ‘Can you read this scene with [me]?’ he was like, ‘Am I gonna get any spoilers?”
Scarlett Johansson has been waiting over a decade to lead a film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and now that she can finally give Natasha Romanoff AKA Black Widow a chance to shine, she can’t even talk to her husband about it.
Johansson and Jost were not married at the time she was filming Black Widow. Filming ended back in October 2019, and the Academy Award-nominated actress married Colin Jost a year later in October 2020 in a secret ceremony.
She’s been waiting a long time to share her first solo movie with him. And the wait for Marvel fans is almost over.
Marvel fans fell in love with Natasha Romanoff back in Iron Man 2 (2010) and have followed her journey all the way to her death in Avengers: Endgame (2019). The whole time, fans begged for a solo Black Widow film, and it’s finally coming to pass.
When we last saw Natasha, she sacrificed herself on Vormir so that the Avengers could collect the Infinity Stones and undo Thanos’s (Josh Brolin) snap. Her first solo movie and possibly last appearance in the MCU is a prequel film.
Marvel Studio’s Black Widow will explore the part of the MCU timeline between when Natasha refused to sign the Sokovia Accords in Captain America: Civil War (2016) and her return as an Avenger in Avengers: Infinity War (2016). And it will add a lot to Natasha’s backstory.
Marvel’s Black Widow will take the titular character back to Russia and team up with people from her past like including Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian (David Harbour), Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Melina Vostokoff (Rachel Weisz), and O-T Fagbenle’s mysterious character who may or may not be the villain Taskmaster.
Black Widow director Cate Shortland and Marvel boss Kevin Feige have both said that the new Marvel movie will take on a dark and horrifying storyline.
While we know Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff will survive the film, what it will reveal about her character is something that fans AND her husband Colin Jost will just have to wait and see.
