Whoopi Goldberg revealed that she has no interest in weddings, but made a special exception for her friend and The View co-host, Joy Behar.
During a recent episode, when asked about her memory as a bridesmaid, Goldberg explained her usual abhorrence for weddings.
I don’t go to weddings,
she told Joy, which left her shocked.
Joy Behar, who tied the knot with Steve Janowitz in 2011 after nearly three decades of dating, correctly pointed out the fact that Whoopi Goldberg had attended her wedding. Goldberg made an exception to her usual disbelief for weddings to be present at Behar’s special day.
Why, you came to mine, to Steve,
Joy responded. Whoopi Goldberg clarified that she made an exception for Joy Behar because her co-host’s wedding held importance not only for love but also for practicality.
Yours is the only one I went to,
the Sister Act actress made her explanation.
Because I love the reason you got married — not just because you guys were in love, but because you guys wanted to make sure that you had somebody in case somebody had to pull the plug,
During their conversation, when Whoopi Goldberg asked Joy Behar if that’s what she had said, the 80-year-old confirmed that she explained how marrying Steve Janowitz was partially dependent on future practicalities, and she nodded in agreement.
And I thought, “You know, love is great, but practicality is everything,”
the Till actress quoted to her viewers. Joy Behar briefly broke up with Steve Janowitz in 2009 but later reconciled, and they officially got married in 2011. Since then, their relationship has strengthened. In 2020, Behar even helped her former co-host Meghan McCain with marriage advice.
You’ve given me a lot of really good advice,
McCain said to Behar during the show.
You have given me very good marriage advice about having to deal with a woman in the public eye and a husband who has to deal with a woman like us — who [are] very polarizing — and their reactions in the media.
Whoopi Goldberg has openly talked about her views on marriage. She has been married and divorced three times in the past. In a 2016 interview, she expressed that she was “not that interested” in marriage and admitted that she had previously married because of societal expectations. Since then, she has begun to appreciate and embrace solitude.
I’m much happier on my own.
Goldberg said.
I can spend as much time with somebody as I want to spend, but I’m not looking to be with somebody forever or live with someone.
