At the request of multiple Spider-Man fans, Zack Snyder’s Justice League star Ray Porter has sent out a plea for Sony Pictures to have Tobey Maguire return as the web-slinger for a fourth Spider-Man film.
Porter’s request to Sony Pictures was made as part of a Cameo video shared by the Twitter page The Ayer Cut. “Hi, Sony Pictures,” Porter said in the video. “This is Ray Porter. Darkseid in Zack Snyder’s Justice League and this is a request from your many, many, many fans, asking that you please bring back Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man in Spider-Man 4.”
The Ayer Cut Twitter page, which is a page dedicated to David Ayer’s cut of 2016’s Suicide Squad, also included a shout-out to another page called “Spiderman 4 Campaign” with a later comment saying, “EVERYONE GO FOLLOW Spiderman 4 Campaign. AND SUPPORT THEIR CAMPAIGN #WeWantSpiderMan4. DO NOT DENY MASTER DARKSEID’S REQUESTS.”
Directed by Sam Raimi, the first Tobey Maguire-led Spider-Man film released in 2002 and was followed by two sequels. The films received praise, with 2004’s Spider-Man 2 often being called one of the best superhero films ever. While a fourth Spider-Man film was planned with Maguire and Raimi set to return, the project eventually fell through.
There is no word on official plans for a fourth Spider-Man film in that franchise, which is unlikely, given the series has been rebooted twice, with the current set of films starring Tom Holland going strong. Raimi will instead be returning to the superhero genre by directing Marvel Studio’s upcoming Doctor Strange sequel, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Ray Porter previously filmed scenes as Darkseid that were eventually cut from Justice League after Joss Whedon took over as director. However, shortly after the announcement of Zack Snyder’s Justice League, the director revealed Porter would be appearing in his version of the film as Darkseid.
Since the announcement, Snyder has released several images of the DC villain as well as a video teasing Darkseid’s appearance. Additionally, the character had an appearance during the first trailer for Zack Snyder’s Justice League, which debuted at the virtual event DC FanDome.
