The prequel for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory marks a beginning of the well-known chocolatier, Timothee Chalamet as he plays the part of Willy Wonka.
The prequel movie explores how Roald Dahl’s fictitious character, Willy Wonka, learned to adore chocolate. Timothee Chalamet continues in the paths of Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp to portray the role.
Tuesday saw the debut of the movie Wonka’s first trailer, which depicts the Dune and Call Me by Your Name actor, 27, as a younger Willy Wonka who discovers cocoa beans, befriends a little orphan girl, and has dreams of opening his own chocolate shop.
The movie, which debuts in December, is a prequel to the famed 1971 picture Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, which starred Gene Wilder as Wonka and was based on the beloved 1964 book by Roald Dahl, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Timothee Chalamet as Wonka in Fictional Europe
At a press screening for the trailer, director Paul King stated, “Wonka tells the wild and wonderful story of Willy Wonka… what chocolate means to him and why he’s so driven to become this amazing chocolate maker. ” He furthermore expressed that he is looking forward to stay raw to Dahl’s novel while looking around the script.
In Dahl’s book, poor Charlie Bucket obtains a golden ticket to visit Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory along with other kids including selfish Veruca Salt, greedy Augustus Gloop, gum-loving Violet Beauregarde, and television-dependent Mike Teevee.
In the new film, Willy Wonka travels to a fictitious European city that is home to top chocolatiers. Chalamet is wearing Willy Wonka’s top hat and long jacket, just as Wilder and Johnny Depp in the 2005 motion picture Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. King stated, “I think he more than lives up to them. (Chalamet is) walking in some incredibly big shoes with the people who have played the character before.”
