Shakira, who broke up with Gerard Piqué in June 2022, recently opened out on how she handled the split when her father was in the hospital.
A Difficult Year For The Colombian Star
Shakira won’t deny that the last year has been challenging. The “Hips Don’t Lie” singer recently reflected on how she was coping with her father William Mebarak Chadid’s illness at the same time as she was digesting her breakup with Gerard Piqué.
Shakira described her illness after last year’s trip to Barcelona in a cover story for People en Espaol (per People’s translation). The three-time Grammy winner said that her father was “gravely injured in an accident” at her oldest son’s first communion and that he had come to “console me after I was consumed with sadness because of my separation” from Gerard, with whom she has twins Milan, 9, and Sasha, 7.
Shakira Being On Low Faith
Shakira recalled how difficult it was to not be able to turn to her father—whom she referred to as her “best friend”—for guidance at this time. She recalled feeling like she couldn’t “survive” all she was going through.
And although though William’s recuperation has been “very hard and slow,” the “She Wolf” singer told People en Espaol, they were nevertheless able to celebrate his 91st birthday in September.
In June 2022, Shakira and Gerard confirmed their separation after dating for more than ten years. Since their breakup, there have been rumors that the singer has made references to the ex-FC Barcelona player—who is now dating Clara Chia Marti—in several of her songs and social media posts.
